Better By Design: The Somat Waste Reduction System

1. Feed Trays
Water flow from the feed tray directs the solid waste to the pulping tank. In some facilities, a self-bussing system eliminates kitchen scraping and waste handling. Prep and plate waste and pot wash are fed directly into the pulper for easy processing. 2. Pulper
Inside the space-saving pulper, whirling cutters turn the solid waste into a slurry. A precision-engineered, heavy-duty cutting mechanism consisting of rotatable and removable cutting components provides the most efficient, reliable mechanism available in the industry today. 3. Silverware Recovery
A built-in silverware trap and Somat's own trough design ensure that your money won't go down the drain. Operators who once used garbage cans and disposals report better than 60% savings on lost silverware.
4. System Flexibility
Somat's extraordinary flexibility allows side-by-side close-coupling of the pulper and Hydra-Extractor®, or separation by a distance as great as a city block or more. Another feature allows for the automatic dispensing of a combination deodorant-sanitizing solution directly into the Hydra-Extractor. 5. Hydra-Extractor
The Hydra-Extractor removes excess water from the piped slurry and produces an odor-free, semi-dry pulp. Once waste is pulped, it compacts naturally by eliminating air space and won't attract flies or vermin. This alone dramatically cuts the number of costly pickups needed. The excess water that is recovered is automatically returned to the pulper for reuse. 6. Recycled Water
After water has been removed by the Hydra-Extractor, it is returned to the pulper, completing the closed-loop cycle. It is not sent down the drain and wasted, as in commercial disposal systems.
